The move gives HP Mile new capabilities to print and produce specialty multi-web ECL constructions.

HP Mile Inc., a Syracuse, NY-based label printing company, has acquired all assets of Geneva, NY-based label converter Lauraville Packaging LLC, which is now a division of HP Mile. The addition of Lauraville Packaging’s proprietary product lines to HP Mile’s existing in-house flexographic printing capabilities gives the company the ability to design, print and manufacture onpack labels, including multi-page encapsulated expanded content labels (ECLs), which can be used extensively for both promotional and regulatory needs as inserts and onserts. “Our agreement to acquire Lauraville Packaging represents another significant milestone in HP Mile’s strategy of strengthening our presence in regulated industries and growing our customer base in more promotional areas,” says Michael Brady, president, HP Mile. “HP Mile is well-known in the pharmaceutical and medical-device label converting field for using the latest technology to print defect-free labels with quick turnaround. Now there is a huge opportunity to expand our business and encapsulate booklets and leaflets. Most importantly, customers will benefit from all processes taking place under one roof, reducing lead times.” HP Mile’s new encapsulated ECLs are durable and water-resistant and allow for customization according to industry standards. Using a multi-web construction consisting of a customizable pressure-sensitive base material, clear top film and a booklet, leaflet or promotional item encapsulated between the two layers, the ECLs can be affixed directly to the outside of a package or container and allow for clean and easy removal. Encapsulated ECLs are used in a variety of industries, such as onpack directions for use (DFUs) in regulated industries, onpack encapsulated installation instructions and schematics for industrial customers, and a wide variety of onpack promotional material and product samples. “This acquisition is a win-win for both companies,” adds James Mathewson, former owner of Lauraville Packaging and current business development consultant for HP Mile. “HP Mile’s established distribution platform in the pharmaceutical marketplace will allow Lauraville’s innovative extended text solutions to be sold directly to manufacturers and distributors who have an established need for onpack directions for use. Additionally, HP Mile’s extensive experience working within regulated industries and its finely tuned focus on quality control and adherence to good manufacturing practices will be a benefit to all of our customers, from regulated industries to advertising agencies.” The transaction, which formally closed Oct. 28, included all assets at the Lauraville Packaging manufacturing facilities in Geneva and exclusive rights to the company’s proprietary processes, product lines and distribution chain. HP Mile has relocated all equipment and processes to its headquarters in Syracuse.
